I love finding seasonal decor on the cheap at the dollar store! Sometimes the design leaves a bit to be desired but at the very least it is probably the cheapest place to find supplies for my crafting obsession.

I knew I wanted to do a few pumpkin DIYs this year and went around to different craft stores to price styrofoam and all were at least 4 dollars even on sale and most would require me to first shape them into actual pumpkins. Then I headed to our local Dollar Tree and sure enough the had huge bins filled with styrofoam pumpkins for only one dollar!

This “Glampkin” is the perfect addition to your fall collection if you have a flair for all things that sparkle. It is super easy, super cheap, and is the perfect craft to work on as you binge watch Grey’s Anatomy since the steps may cumulatively take awhile. (So many paper flowers!)

Time: A few (distracted) hours. Perfect craft for if you are binge watching your latest obsession on TV. Will probably take about an hour if you own a Cricut and the necessary cartridge.

Materials

• Dollar Store Styrofoam or Plastic Pumpkin
• Matte Mod Podge
• Gold Glitter
• A Small Tupperware Container
• Orange Scrapbook Paper (15 or so sheets)
• Hot Glue Gun
• Hot Glue Sticks
• (If replacing the stem)Twisted Jute (or Hemp) Rope, 1/2-Inch 
• (Optional) Although by no means a requirement you can save a ton of time using the Cricut Flower Shoppe Cartridge if you have a Cricut Explore Air 2 or other suitable Cricut model (I don’t have one but it’s on my wish-list)

If you have a Cricut create a ton of small- medium spiral shaped flowers and feel free to skip out on the next step.For those of you, like me, who don’t own a Cricut the first thing we need to do is cut out a ton of spiral flowers. I did this by first cutting out circles and then cutting out a spiral shape and trimming the outside edge so it had bumpy “petals”

Hint: Don’t worry about them being perfect if you don’t have a Cricut, it just adds character!

Next roll from the middle edge to the outer edge to create your flowers.

Hint: This is the opposite of how spiral flowers are normally rolled, but for this craft it works better so all have a solid outer edge versus wide petals towards the bottom.

Now that the flower is rolled set it down to unfurl just a bit, then place a dab of Mod Podge on the loose edge and secure it to the rest of the flower.

Next apply glue to the bottom edge and place on a small rectangle of leftover scrapbook paper. Once the Glue dries cut off the excess scrapbook paper.

My favorite part which also happens to be the glittering stage is next! Using a paintbrush brush the outer edges of the petals with a bit of mod podge then dip into a small container of glitter.

Tap the excess off and leave to dry.

While those glitter flowers are starting to dry now is the perfect time to exchange an unsightly stem if your dollar store pumpkin is similar to  mine. Just remove the styrofoam stem (mine was secured with a toothpick), carve a little hole and fold a piece of jute rope in half and stick it in the hole!

All that’s left now is to hot glue the glittery flowers to the pumpkin!

Once your pumpkin is completely covered up to where the styrofoam touches the table, you are done! You have transformed a dollar store pumpkin into a gorgeous glampkin perfect for displaying around your home!
