This week we have had highs in 80’s in Texas which means to us it feels like fall!
So this mama wanted to get in the fall spirit and make some fun treats for my child’s lunchbox. Rice Krispie treats are always a winner and are easy enough to make I could get my son involved as well.
Of course I didn’t want just ANY Rice Krispie treats, I wanted to make pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats so I came up with a super quick and easy method using what I had on hand.

Cook Time: 15 Minutes
Overall time: Approx. 30 Minutes
Materials
- 6 cups Rice Krispies® Cereal
- 10 oz Mini Marshmallows
- 3 Tb Butter
- Red food coloring
- Yellow food coloring
- Green Apple Licorice Twists (or Twizzlers Rainbow Twists)
- Silicone Pumpkin Mold ( I got mine from Target but Amazon has some I’ll include the links to below)
- Optional: M&M’s® or other small candy
First to make the Rice Krispie Treat mix:
1) Cut the butter into slices and add to a pot, melt using low heat.
2) Once the butter is melted add the mini marshmallows and constantly stir until completely melted and combined. Remove from the stove.
3) Add in a few drops of red and yellow food coloring to the marshmallow fluff. I used about 3 drops of red and 6 of yellow. Stir until the color is the same throughout.
4) Pour the Rice Krispies® Cereal into a mixing bowl and add in the marshmallow mixture. Stir until completely combined.
To form the pumpkins:
5) Place a spoonful of orange rice krispie treat into each silicone mold.Press down firmly with the back of the spoon to make sure the crevices of the mold are completely filled.
6) Cut up a green Twizzler® into approx. 1.5 inch sections. If using the Caramel Apple Filled Twizzlers cut in half.
7) Add the twizzlers into the stem slot of the mold and press down lightly. If you want to add a chocolate surprise add in some M&M’s® or other small candies.
8) Add another spoonful of Rice Krispie mix into the silicone mold and press firmly with the back of the spoon.
9) Pop the silicone mold into the freezer for a minimum of 10 minutes. The longer you leave them in there the easier they will be to remove and the more detail that will be retained ( I left some in overnight and they were perfect!).
10) Pop them out of the mold and you have picture perfect pumpkin rice krispie treats!
