5 Baby Items You Should Be Buying at IKEA

Ever since IKEA opened a store in my backyard, every once in a while I get the hankering to get lost amongst the reasonably priced Swedish furniture and other knick knacks while sipping on some lingonberry juice.

From my son’s playroom to my magnetic make-up storage, there are few places in our home IKEA hasn’t touched. However it wasn’t until recently on one of my meandering IKEA strolls that I realized I had missed one very important section, the baby gear wall!

It was like discovering the Target dollar spot for the first time, why had I been wasting our hard earned money buying these baby essentials when Ikea had them for a fraction of the price? So learn from my mistakes and take to heart these budget-friendly baby items you should be buying from Ikea.

*I am in NO way affiliated with IKEA other than as an extremely satisfied customer! This is NOT a sponsored post.

1. Bibs

I have no clue how much money I’ve wasted on bibs over my first child’s life, but with the prices ranging from 4 to 12 dollars a piece for a pocketed bib at most baby retailers I guarantee it was far more than I like to think about.

Currently IKEA has a 2 pack of the STJÄRNBILD bib for a fraction of the price. We use them religiously with our second child and they are large, easy to clean, durable, and budget friendly!

We haven’t had the need for it but if your child is an especially messy eater be sure to check out the KLADDIG bib which offers FULL- coverage (it even has built in sleeves).

2. Spoons

You might not believe the price when you first see it, but I promise it is REAL.

So far we have only used the BÖRJA spoons to feed our little one and both have worked extremely well for baby sized bites. They have held up extremely well in the dishwasher and are even microwave safe if you accidentally forget it’s in the bowl (not that this sleep deprived mama has EVER done that).

Supposedly they are designed with babies learning to eat in mind so they grow with your child as well!

3. Bowls

I won’t lie our every day use plates already come from IKEA, but they aren’t exactly baby-grade durable.

They do have a few lines of baby specific bowls and plates like the anti-slip SMÅGLI set and the microwave safe SMASKA Bowls and Plates.

However we chose to go with the KALAS bowls because they were SO much cheaper (unbelievably so), are still microwave-safe, dishwasher-safe, and most of all they have proven to be EXTREMELY durable despite my baby’s best flinging efforts.

4. Training Cups

The BÖRJA training cups come at an unbeatable price, have a tight fitting lid, easy to hold-handles, and best of all a transparent window so you can monitor how much your little one has actually had.

They are not completely spill- proof but honestly despite popular belief that is a GOOD thing.

I Know a lot of parents go crazy over “spill-proof” cups but they actually aren’t the best to use in the beginning.

Our pediatrician explained that a lot of the problems parents report when transitioning from the bottle to sippy cups actually comes from that with spill-proof lids the child gets frustrated since they haven’t mastered the skill needed to actually get anything.

5.  Baby Proofing Supplies

Our youngest just started crawling and unlike his older brother this baby is into EVERYTHING already. I mean trying to open drawers, thinking holes in the wall (like electrical outlets) look reallllly interesting, and trying pull up on every surface that has semi-sharp edges. This of course means we needed to baby-proof our life, and we needed to do it on a budget. Luckily IKEA had us covered!

My favorite IKEA baby-proofing steals were

They also offer the PATRULL Cabinet/ drawer latches but we decided against those despite the great price because we were looking for options that didn’t require drilling holes into our cabinets.

So there you have it 5 Budget-friendly baby items you should be buying from IKEA, your wallet will thank you!

As I mentioned at the top I am NOT an affiliate for IKEA, but I couldn’t in good conscience post inflated priced links that were available from other sites (my advice is definitely either  order from IKEA directly or go to the store because some of those mark-ups were CRAZY).
