Back To School Signs

It’s that time of year again when parents rejoice and children solemnly trudge around the house bemoaning their lot in life. Or at least that is what my 6 year old has been doing as he repeatedly asks WHY he has to go back to school.

I’ve tried a variety of responses and so far none have gotten me very far with my creative child.

I say “So you can Learn”

He says ” Well you can teach me”

I say “So you can see your friends”

He says “I see them anyway plus YOU are my best friend mommy”

*insert eyeroll here*

I say “Because the law says you have to”

He says “Then how come Suzy Q and Paulie B. both stay home. You know they do school at HOME!”

I say “Because you are driving me nuts and you can’t sit around and beg to watch Ben 10 all day”

Just kidding,  I may think it but would never tell him that. (However I would apparently publish it to the internet for all to see.)

Whether he likes it or not back to school is indeed right around the corner.

Our hallways are now littered with Amazon boxes filled with his school supplies, his new pristine school clothes are folded neatly in his drawer (possibly for the for the last time), and there is the smell of freedom permeating our home (well for me at least).

So it is now time to think about our typical back to school traditions and like so many others EVERY year we take a photo with a sign to memorialize the glorious occasion for our family annals.

As you can see last year there was a smile on his face and even HE was excited!

Well until it dawned on him that I actually would be leaving him in this strange place for the following 8 hours.

After this photo was taken I was promptly ushered out of the classroom by his extremely experienced teacher who knew from experience that otherwise this was about to devolve into a crying party that more than likely would NOT have had a happy ending or have set my son’s first day off on the right foot.

So to make your yearly picture a little easier I made a few printable signs so you don’t have to make your own! The links are at the bottom and feel free to print and use them!

Last Year we simply placed our sign in a frame but this year I wanted old school style with new age charm so I used my chalkboard lettering hack to transfer them onto a chalkboard!
