“Thank You For Helping My Child Grow” DIY Teacher Gift

It’s that time of year again! The school year is wrapping up and our kiddo’s are about to be out for summer.

I think we can all agree that teachers have an extremely hard job that they must REALLY love to keep coming back. My one five year old and 6 month old are enough to keep my hands full, I can’t imagine being responsible for 21 little munchkins at a time. So I think as the year closes out, it is not only appropriate but necessary to let your child’s teacher know how much you appreciate all they have done for you and your lil’ one over the school year.

When money wasn’t quite as tight as it is now, I always tried to give gift cards because I can only imagine what they have spent to make my child comfortable throughout the year. Decorations, books, extra supplies, colorful rugs, posters and so much more come directly out of our teachers’ pockets. I’m sure there are times they make these purchases at the expense of their wants, and I always hoped a few gift cards could help offset some of that.

Now that money is much tighter, I can’t afford to give like I once did. But I still want to recognize all that they did for my child and let them know how much I appreciate them. So this year I put together a “Thanks for helping my child grow” gift. At the bottom of this post I’ll link the card I made and feel free to print it and use it for your own teacher if you like it! (Just don’t go claiming it as your own or posting it on your own blog or something, because that really isn’t nice.)

Materials:

  • Flower Sugar Cookies (or maybe even a real plant)
  • A flower pot (I got mine on sale from Hobby Lobby)
  • A Sharpie
  • A Pencil
  • Green Crinkle Cut Paper

I wanted her to remember who it was from without sacrificing functionality, so I decided to write a short message on the bottom of the pot. First I drew guidelines in pencil for where I wanted my Kindergartner to write his name (because otherwise guaranteed he’d have taken up the WHOLE space). Then I had him write his name in.

I erased the pencil lines and wrote my own thank you message, as well as the school year.

I added crinkle cut paper to fill out the space, then packaged up my easy to make and beautiful flower cookies.

I printed my Teacher Thank You Card and now have a gift, full of gratitude and best wishes, that I hope she will enjoy!
