Lost Pines: A Gem in Hill Country

I’m not sure how many of you live in Texas, but spring is my favorite time of year.

It’s a brief ray of sunshine bookmarked by the yearly ice apocalypse and summer’s hundred degree temps.

Sure there are random hail storms, tornado scares, and you never know how to dress with a 30 degree difference between morning and night, but as soon as I see those bluebonnets lining the highway I feel ALIVE.

One spring we were lucky enough to visit a “little” hidden oasis in the heart of Hill country: The Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa.

This time of year it embodies everything I love about a Texas spring.

Fields of bluebonnets, birds chirping, days filled with horseback riding, swimming, and nature walks. Luckily while we were there the weather was perfect because this place had A LOT to to outside.

Lost Pines has a TON To Do Outside

When we booked our trip we were looking for someplace to unwind and perhaps enjoy a bit of time out in nature.

Well Lost Pines delivered on that and so much more! I didn’t realize how many included activities there were until I looked at the calendar after checking in.

It was pretty much the  nicest summer camp you can imagine for adults and kids alike. There were movie nights under the clear Texas sky, they had arts and crafts for the kids, story time by the fireplace, and they even held hands on talks about local wildlife in the lobby.

Nature Trails Galore

As if that wasn’t enough they are right next door to Mckinney Roughs Nature Park which has 18 miles of nature trails. I didn’t walk them all, but the few I did go on were great to see some of the local wildlife.

We even took an evening guided nature walk by the Colorado River at sunset ( but be warned this is Texas in the spring so there were a few snake sightings, luckily far off the path).

Water Fun for kids and Adults!

My son loved the lazy river although our first day there when we learned we HAD to get him into swimming lessons.

You know what’s scarier than a child who isn’t afraid of water?

A child who can’t swim and isn’t afraid of water.

I won’t lie I debated ditching my husband and heading over to the adult’s only pool (because oh yeah they have one of those too!)

Horseback Rides

My son rode his first horse and the guides were absolutely wonderful at making him feel at ease. They even let this overprotective mama  follow on foot a safe distance behind.

They offer A LOT of different horse riding packages so you are sure to find one that works for your family!

Family Fun Activities!

The calendar while we were there was jam packed with activities for the whole family!

They had movie nights under the stars with a large inflatable screen in front of the river and fresh popped popcorn.

There were animal talks in the lobby where my son was super excited to (safely) touch a live snake.

There were tons of fun kids activities ranging from arts and crafts times to big bouncy houses.

They even has a S’mores event which was a delicious (and fun) way to end our trip!

The only downside I can think of is that the food was a bit pricey (but it is a resort after all). Our room came with a fridge so that was easily mitigated with a stop to H-E-B.

So if you are looking for a gorgeous Texas getaway this spring, summer, or fall I highly recommend doing so in style at Lost Pines.

I hope one day to return, stay longer  and maybe even take advantage of the rest of the services like kids day camp so this mama can go to the spa or sleep poolside.
