Few things scare those of us with a few extra pounds more than shopping.

Between hunting for our size on the rack, trying to figure out each brand’s individual sizing chart, and god forbid wanting to find cute, stylish, or dare I say even trendy clothing in our size it often feels impossible.

I’m 5’11” and have some extra fluff (especially after those pregnancy pounds), so finding clothes that are long enough and fit well has been an issue.

I’ve read enough posts and googled enough to make my eyes glaze over, but I’ve never seen a list containing MY favorite stores so here you go ladies, may you forever love your clothing and the skin you are in.

City Chic

I absolutely love City Chic!

It is my first stop when I want to feel edgy and trendy (and who doesn’t occasionally). I’ve purchased several of their dresses and tops ranging from casual to night out and they all have been high quality and flattering.

Their clothes are PERFECT for date nights and concerts or just looking your best while out and about!

Maurice’s

I first fell in love with Maurice’s while looking for dresses for my engagement shoot and since then it has become a staple in my wardrobe.

They offer a wide variety of plus size clothing in the exact same styles as their non plus items.

Personally this is now the ONLY place I buy leggings because they are flattering, durable, and fit like a dream,

They run amazing sales from time to time and have a pretty awesome rewards program so be sure to watch out  so you can get the best deal!

PinkBlush

Don’t let the name of this website fool you, they carry much, much more than maternity clothes (although their maternity clothes are awesome too).

I actually came across this website through a baby board while I was pregnant with my youngest and fell in love.

They offer gorgeous floral gowns perfect for family photos and vacations alike, and their wrap and empire styles are extremely forgiving.

Anytime I leave the house in one of their dresses I KNOW I am going to get asked where it came from multiple times!

Nordstrom

So of course you have heard of Nordstrom, but did you know some stores carry an AWESOME selection of plus sizes?

Not every Nordstrom carries the same selection of plus size clothing (which someone really should get on top of), personally I have to drive past two malls to get to one with a plus sized department with some substance.

But after hours of searching for a little black dress to wear the first night out after our second child, they delivered! I found exactly what I was looking for and the customer service was wonderful.

It was a breath of fresh air to feel like the clerk WANTED me to find the perfect dress and feel great in it, she even searched the entire department twice to find exactly the one I had seen online.

Their clothes are a bit more expensive but they have amazing options that are perfect for interviews, work, high-end date nights, etc!

Gwynnie Bee

Okay this one isn’t a store it’s a subscription service.

I used it for over two years and was terribly sad when the post second baby budget necessitated I let it go.

It’s a clothing rental company (which sounds a bit odd), but I never got one piece that actually looked like it had been worn before. If you love a piece enough, you can buy it for much cheaper than what it would have been from the original designer.

I think what made this a truly outstanding service to me is the ability to wear the clothes while I went about my daily life and see if any wardrobe malfunctions occurred.

Sometimes hem-lines seem to magically rise throughout the day or fabric has a bit too much give, so it ends up looking like a potato sack by the time I get home. Unlike after buying it from a store, if any of the above happened (and they rarely did), I could ship it back.

It is also a perfect budget-friendly option for one-off special events like weddings or Christmas parties!

These stores and sites are my go to for every occasion, despite trying so many other “mainstream” stores, because they carry quality and cute clothes in my size.

If any of you have my any other recommendations I would love to hear about them, because I’m always looking for new great places to shop!
