A few Easters ago we began the tradition of making resurrection rolls (also known as empty tomb rolls) as a fun way to teach the true meaning of Easter.
If you haven’t made them before resurrection rolls are the PERFECT Easter treat to make with your kids.
The marshmallows represent the body of christ and they “magically” disappear when you bake them representing the empty tomb.
However while they have always been a tasty treat, I came to realize over the years that my son was more into making brightly colored Easter eggs than the resurrection rolls mainly because of ALL the pretty colors.
I also wasn’t sure that my son was understanding completely that this is why we CELEBRATE Easter!
Key word celebrate!
While it is important to understand the sacrifice at the crux of our religion, it is also equally important to understand the joy and love!
So I decided to make colorful resurrection rolls with my son and it was a complete success!
Materials
(makes 16 Rolls)
- Brightly Colored Sugar (I make my own!)
- 16 Jumbo Marshmallows
- 2 cans Pillsbury™ Crescents
- 1/2 Cup of Butter
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- Baking Sheet/ Muffin Pan
- Optional: Parchment paper if using a baking sheet
Preheat the oven to 350° F
Melt the butter by cutting into chunks and microwaving on 30% power for 10 second intervals and stirring in between.
Grease your pan or line with parchment paper.
hint: If you want taller resurrection rolls use a muffin pan if you have one!
Dip the marshmallow into the melted butter and then dip in the different colored sugars
Wrap the marshmallow tightly in the Crescent roll and make sure to pinch the dough together at the seams VERY well, otherwise the marshmallow will leak out.
hint: In my experience it’s easier to have your child dip the marshmallow while you wrap them
Roll the dough ball in granulated sugar
Place in the greased muffin pan or on the parchment paper lined baking sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes at 350° F. (The tops should be golden brown.)
Let your kids break them open and enjoy the beautiful colors!
